Survey Technician or Land Surveyor in Training (LST)
Our Parksville office is seeking an experienced Survey Technician or LST to join our team. This position will include both field work and office work. Candidates with experience conducting field surveys and drafting are preferred.
Key job activities:
- Working under the guidance and mentorship of JEA's BC Land Surveyors in the Parksville and Nanaimo offices.
- Leading field work, including legal, topographical and construction surveys.
- Preparation of field data, notes and sketches.
- Operating survey field equipment including manual and robotic total stations, GNSS and GPS equipment, and data collectors.
- Drafting, calculations, and quality control.
- Assisting JEA's BC Land Surveyors in job set up, management, and client correspondence.
- Assisting in the preparation of proposals, costs estimates, and project schedules.
- Coordination and direction of field crews and technical staff.
- Working on multidisciplinary projects in coordination with JEA's Civil Engineering and Surveying departments in Nanaimo.
- Following and upholding company safety policies.
Role requirements:
- Registration as an LST with the ABCLS or experience as a Survey Technician with a two-year technical diploma in geomatics or civil engineering.
- Proficiency with MicroSurvey or other CAD based drafting software.
- Strong technical and drafting skills.
- A working understanding of surveying principles, calculations, practices, and standards, particularly in relation to land development in BC.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with project managers, colleagues, and clients.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and problem solving skills.
- Experience working with governments, construction contractors, developers, property owners, and approving authorities.
- Valid driver's license.

Job details:
- Approximately 40 hours a week with flexible start/finish times within standard working hours.
- This position requires in person attendance.
- Wage range is $32-45/hour based on experience.
- Relocation allowance available if applicable.
