About the Opportunity

J.E. Anderson & Associates is looking for a full-time Field Survey Technician/Crew Chief based in Campbell River, BC.

Reporting to our team of professional land surveyors, engineers, and management, this position is primarily responsible for leading field survey work while also supporting with drafting and other office-related tasks, as needed and as skills permit.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Field survey work, data collection, field notes, and calculations
  • Land Title Act Surveys, Strata Property Act Surveys, Land Act Surveys, and Canada Lands Surveys
  • Topographic, Construction, and Engineering Surveys
  • Working alone or as the leader of a survey field crew
  • Working in urban and rural/remote environments in variable terrain and weather conditions
  • Using conventional instruments, robotic total stations, and GNSS equipment
  • Interpreting legal plans, field notes, and construction drawings
  • Liaising with project managers, contractors, clients, and members of the public
  • Working safely and within JEA's defined safety protocol

About You

To qualify, you must have relevant experience conducting survey fieldwork and/or an educational background in geomatics or civil engineering, as well as a valid driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.

Additionally, the following skills/attributes and background are highly valued:

  • Experience using Leica (or similar) survey equipment, including conventional, robotic, and GNSS survey instruments
  • Experience using drafting software such as MicroSuvery, civil3D or other CAD based programs
  • Experience using Leica Infinity and Captivate or similar data management software 
  • A working understanding of survey principles and requirements
  • Professional demeanor when interacting with clients, fellow employees, and members of the public
  • Solid time management and communication skills

About Compensation & Benefits

Compensation includes a competitive starting wage of $30 to $37.50 per hour (approximately $62,000 to $78,000 per year based and a 40-hour work week), with overtime pay as projects and workload require.
